Sex can be amazing! Like a drug though, it can also be used to try and blot out problems in your life. Some people sleep around because they genuinely enjoy the casual aspect sex can bring. Other people sleep around because they think it will make people like them more. Sex will not make people like you any more or less. Only you can make yourself feel good. No one else can.
The Healthy Way to Have Sex
Sleeping with someone because you think it will make them like you more is not a good reason to have sex. Sleeping with someone because you know it make you feel good, is a good reason to have sex. The trick is in knowing your own mind and what makes you feel good in a positive healthy way. Some tips to check your mental status before shagging around are below:
1. Are you comfortable?
Basically are you feeling good about yourself? Are you content with who you are at the moment? If you’re not feeling great about yourself then sex with a random buddy is probably not going to help you feel much better.
2. Are you a virgin?
If you’re a virgin and are just looking to have sex to see what it feels like and get it out of the way, then you need to go look elsewhere. Casual sex is probably not the best starting place to pop your cherry.
3. Are you horny?
Sounds obvious, but if you’re not feeling even remotely horny you shouldn’t be trying to have sex until you do.
4. Do you fancy the person you’re considering having sex with?
Again obvious, but you’d be surprised by the amount of people who don’t fancy the partner they sleep with. Come on people! If you don’t even fancy your lover than what the fuck is the point?!
5. Do you have repressed feelings of guilt?
If you’ve been raised to feel that sex is a ‘dirty thing’ that shouldn’t be practised outside of marriage, stop whatever you’re about to do right now! Sex should be fun. Repeat: SEX SHOULD BE FUN! If you’re harbouring religious guilt or familial guilt, then you need to get over that first before jumping into bed with the first person that comes along.
