It always comes down to numbers with men and women. No matter how many or how few sexual partners you’ve had in your life you will always be judged. This is particularly true when it comes to women.
Outdated Patriarchal Values
Despite the fact that we claim to be living in a modern free thinking society we are still incredibly sexist and discriminatory when it comes to the subject of sex. According to many surveys conducted in the USA and the UK the right number of sexual partners a woman should say she’s had when asked is 10. Why 10? If she says any more or less she will apparently be judged harshly by men. I find this disturbing especially when I realise that I have been guilty of such judgements myself. Why do we judge though? It all comes down to societal values partially influenced by religion but mostly guided by sexist agendas against women.
If a man says he’s slept with more than 20 people he’s considered ‘experienced’ yet if a woman does the same thing she’s considered ‘a slut’. The rules are different because of these prejudiced attitudes. It’s made worse when women themselves submit to these rules evidenced by the fact that surveys tell women they should say no more than 10 when asked to avoid judgement.
Fuck the rules
A scientific study conducted by researchers in the UK concluded that the ideal number of people to sleep with throughout your life is 23.89. Again though that is an average worked out by all the different numbers given by many different respondents with many of them lying about how many people they’ve slept with. So we say fuck the rules.
You should sleep with…
As many or as few people as you wish in your life. As long as you’re safe and sensible about how you go about it we see no reason to judge someone who only sleeps with 1 person or someone who sleeps with 100. Whatever you may think about the numbers individually someone else will always have a different opinion. So who are we to judge?
